The Upstate Group Needs Volunteer Victim Supporters

Spartanburg Co., S.C. (WSPA)– A company that assists victims of domestic violence and sexual attack needs volunteer victim supporters.

SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition will provide training this month for domestic violence and sexual attack crisis therapists.

The company needs volunteers for its 24-hour crisis hot line. SAFE Homes serves domestic violence and sexual attack victims in Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties.

Volunteer victim supporters are had to be on-call after workplace hours, weekends and vacations throughout shifts they select monthly.

Volunteers might also help in the company’s emergency shelter.

Domestic violence volunteers just react to a phone call. Sexual attack volunteers react to the phone conversation and might accompany and promote for victims when they go to a local health center for a forensic rape evaluation.

All potential volunteers participate in a 30-hour training program to prepare them for the needs of this position. Training consists of a firm introduction, characteristics of domestic and sexual violence, existing law, crisis intervention, shelter, and healthcare facility treatments, listening abilities, and resources and recommendations.
